The Maldives continues to see robust growth in tourism, with the latest figures from the Ministry of Tourism showing 1.6 million visitors welcomed by the end of September 2025. This represents a healthy 9.6% increase compared to the same period last year, putting the country well on track toward its ambitious target of 2.3 million tourists for the full year.
Leading the arrivals from January through August 2025 were China with 235,245 visitors, followed by Russia with 177,581 visitors, and the United Kingdom with 134,114 visitors. Other significant markets include Italy (106,230), Germany (102,496), India (85,045), United States (43,560), France (40,979), Spain (34,132), and Switzerland (27,122).
To support this growth and achieve the 2025 target, the government is actively working to expand international routes through the national airline and developing resort infrastructure in new atolls across the archipelago.
