Maldives Police Launch Historic Blues Re-Training Programme to Modernize Policing Standards

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched the 'Blues Re-Training Programme 2026,' marking the first initiative of its kind in the organization's history. Designed to elevate professional knowledge and ethical standards, the program aims to equip officers with the leadership and operational capabilities required for contemporary law enforcement. Organized by the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement's Centre for Public Safety and Security Studies, the five-day training commenced on July 18 in Vaanee, Dhaalu Atoll. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to build a more accountable, professional, and community-focused police force capable of navigating the complexities of modern security challenges. The curriculum integrates a blend of theoretical and practical modules. Officers are undergoing training in internal ethics and operational policing, with a specific focus on digital transformation and the integration of Artificial Intelligence. The program utilizes scenario-based training and detailed case studies to sharpen decision-making skills, enhance problem-solving abilities, and foster more effective communication and teamwork. According to the MPS, the program serves as a cornerstone for institutional development. By encouraging innovation and upgrading technical skills, the service intends to create a force that is not only highly skilled but also ethically grounded and responsive to the evolving demands of the Maldivian public. The initial phase of the training targets 98 officers serving in the South Central Police Region. Eligible participants for this first wave include officers holding ranks from Constable up to Sub-Inspector of Police, ensuring that the foundational levels of the force are updated with the latest policing standards.
