A special conference aimed at formulating the priority areas and annual action plan for the Maldives Police Service has commenced. The three-day conference, named the 'NCPL Annual Policing Conference 2026', is jointly organised by the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement and Strategic Planning and Legal Services.
The conference is being led by Minister of Internal Security, Productivity and Technical Skills Ali Ihshan and Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohammed. According to the Maldives Police Service, practical and robust measures based on scientific findings, studies and operational experience of the police will be formulated.
At the opening ceremony, Commissioner Ahmed Mohammed urged police officers to identify the causes of crime in the country and work to eliminate those causes.
Superintendent of Police Amin Abdul Qaumo, Head of the Executive Director's Office at the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement, said the conference is an important step toward continuously improving services provided to citizens. He noted that changes can be identified during the conference to further enhance service quality.
'The work for the first and second days has been largely designed to align with strategic policing requirements, so we will formulate and present next year's action plans over these two days. Then, on the third day, we will focus on drugs, human trafficking, and gangs, particularly examining how the police's efforts engage children involved in these activities and how they will remove children from these situations,' Superintendent Amin said.
Through the consultations held at this conference, the priority areas for the police will be identified, clear targets set, and specific responsibilities included in next year's action plan arranged and determined.
Discussions will cover a wide range of topics, including the demand for police services across the country, changes in the crime landscape, and findings from technical studies. This is the first year the conference is being held, and the service stated it will continue annually to further improve the quality of police services.
