The Maldives is finalizing preparations to welcome Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who arrives tonight for an official visit at the invitation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Official welcoming ceremonies are being organized around the Izzuddin Jetty, Republic Square, and the President’s Office. Authorities are currently installing flag displays facing the jetty and arranging the ceremonial grounds at Republic Square to mark the arrival of the visiting leader.
This visit follows an invitation extended by President Muizzu during his own official trip to Malaysia in April 2025. It marks a significant diplomatic milestone, as it is Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's first visit to the Maldives since taking office in November 2022.
During the visit, Prime Minister Anwar will hold official talks with President Muizzu. According to the President’s Office, the discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and increasing cooperation within the international arena. Both leaders are expected to explore new avenues for partnership and strategic collaboration.
The visit is anticipated to yield tangible results, with several agreements expected to be signed in key sectors. These accords aim to formalize and deepen the ties between the Maldives and Malaysia, enhancing economic and political cooperation between the two Asian nations.
