Maldives Records 22,636 Tourist Arrivals in First Four Days of July
World ·
Tourist arrivals in the Maldives have shown a positive uptick at the beginning of July, according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
Between July 1 and July 4, the Maldives welcomed 22,636 visitors, representing a 1.5 percent increase compared to the 22,297 arrivals recorded during the same period last year. The daily average for the start of the month has climbed to approximately 5,000 tourists per day, a significant jump from the 3,000 daily arrivals seen throughout June.
Daily data reveals a steady climb in numbers over the four-day window. Arrivals stood at 5,260 on July 1, rising to 5,568 on July 2, and 5,374 on July 3. The trend peaked on July 4, which saw 6,434 visitors, marking the highest single-day total for the month so far.
China continues to be the primary source market for the archipelago. With 174,201 visitors arriving so far this year, Chinese tourists account for 16.3 percent of the total market share. Other leading markets include Russia with 154,198 arrivals, the United Kingdom with 87,768, Italy with 74,456, and Germany with 68,079.
Despite the early July surge, total arrivals for the year reached 1,092,518 as of July 4, reflecting a slight decline when compared to the same timeframe last year.
While the government remains focused on sustaining growth in the sector, industry experts maintain an optimistic outlook. They expect the tourism industry to expand further, even as the region navigates external challenges stemming from ongoing unrest in the Middle East.
