Maldives Records Close to 100,000 Tourist Arrivals in First Two Weeks of January

The Maldives has started 2026 with a significant surge in tourism, recording nearly 100,000 visitor arrivals in the first two weeks of January. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, 99,350 tourists arrived between January 1-14, marking a 9.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. Russia emerged as the top source market, accounting for 17 percent of arrivals, followed by Italy and the United Kingdom. Nearly 70 percent of visitors opted for luxury resort stays, with Velana International Airport handling 98.7 percent of all arrivals. The Maldives continues to solidify its reputation as a premier luxury destination, with 179 of its 186 resorts operational and 44,807 beds available. Other accommodations include guesthouses, hotels, and safari vessels. The tourism sector remains a vital pillar of the Maldivian economy, reaffirming its status as a timeless paradise.
