Maldives Secures Major Airline Partnerships at Arabian Travel Market 2026

World ·
The Maldives has concluded its presence at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2026 in Dubai, leveraging the Middle East's largest tourism fair to secure strategic partnerships and broaden its global appeal. The mission focused on strengthening international ties and promoting the archipelago's diverse tourism offerings to a global audience. A central achievement of the event was the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with two of the world's leading carriers, Emirates and Qatar Airways. These agreements focus on enhancing destination marketing and optimizing travel trade, aiming to streamline the flow of visitors from the Middle East and beyond to Maldivian shores. The delegation was led by the Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) and included 165 representatives from 74 different tourism companies. To accommodate the scale of the operation, the Maldives debuted its largest stand to date, a 517-square-foot double-decker pavilion. The immersive exhibit showcased the nation's renowned underwater biodiversity and wildlife, while offering visitors a taste of Maldivian hospitality through traditional local snacks. This year's strategy pivoted heavily toward business-to-business (B2B) engagement. Both levels of the pavilion were utilized for high-level meetings, which VMC confirmed were well-received by international stakeholders. Reflecting on the outcome, VMC Managing Director Yasir Abdulla stated that the fair was a success despite the logistical challenges encountered during the event. In a bid to engage younger, tech-savvy audiences, the Maldives also launched "Hey Travellers," an innovative gaming application. The app allows users to virtually develop an uninhabited island into a luxury resort, blending gamification with destination marketing to maintain visibility in a competitive digital landscape. By combining high-level diplomatic agreements with immersive physical displays and digital innovation, the Maldives continues to solidify its position as a premier global destination, ensuring the tourism sector remains resilient and attractive to new markets.
