Thursday saw a record high in tourist arrivals to the Maldives, with 8,621 visitors arriving in the country, according to the latest daily update report from the Ministry of Tourism. This marks the highest single-day arrival figure since February. The Ministry's data showed that tourist numbers had dipped due to unrest in the Middle East, but arrivals have begun to recover. So far this month, over 100,148 tourists have arrived, a 0.5% increase compared to the 99,628 arrivals during the same period last year. The year-to-date total stands at 1.70 million tourists, slightly down from the 1.75 million recorded in the same period of the previous year. The Maldives had earlier seen record-breaking monthly arrivals in January and February, with 224,788 and 247,722 arrivals respectively.
