Maldives Signs IICA Resolution to Combat Cross-Border Scams

Politics ·
The Maldives Police Service has signed a resolution of the International Investigative Cooperation Alliance (IICA) aimed at preventing cross-border scams and dismantling scam networks. The signing took place during the first annual forum of the IICA, held from the 21st to the 23rd of this month in Incheon, South Korea. Assistant Commissioner of Police Aasim Abdullah signed the resolution on behalf of the Maldives Police Service at the forum, which was organized by the Korean National Police Agency. The IICA is an alliance formed by nine countries, Interpol, and Aseanapol (ASEAN Chiefs of Police), established on October 23, 2025, in Seoul. The resolution focuses on enhancing information sharing among member states, strengthening collaborative efforts to combat organized scam networks operating across borders, and establishing sustainable and equitable cooperation mechanisms. The forum served as a platform for international partners to share expertise and reinforce joint action against transnational financial crimes. Police officials stated that signing the resolution underscores the commitment of the Maldives Police Service to international cooperation in tackling serious cross-border crimes and scam networks. The resolution also provides legal legitimacy for operations conducted through the IICA, aligning with decisions already adopted by Interpol's General Assembly and the Aseanapol Conference.
