The Maldives has participated in the TTG Travel Experience 2026 in an effort to strengthen Maldivian tourism in the Italian market.
Visit Maldives took part in the fair, being held in Rimini, Italy, from the 14th to the 16th of this month. Visit Maldives described the participation as an important step in continuous efforts to maintain and further expand the popularity of the Maldives in the European market, one of the oldest and most important markets for Maldivian tourism, and especially in Italy.
The TTG Travel Experience is one of the largest annual events in Italy's tourism industry. The fair brings together tourism authorities from various parts of the world, tour operators, travel agents, airlines, and leading figures in the hospitality sector. Visit Maldives said it is a valuable platform at an international level to strengthen business ties, share the latest market information, and find new opportunities.
At this year's fair, under the initiative of Visit Maldives, a total of 48 delegates from 24 companies representing the Maldivian tourism sector participated. During the three-day event, the Maldivian delegation will hold important meetings with Italian travel-trade partners, and with marketing and media agencies, to further strengthen relations.
Visit Maldives Managing Director Abdulla Yaser said Italy is a country with a very long and strong relationship with Maldivian tourism. Yaser said the aim is to further strengthen this relationship and introduce Italian tourists to the many different experiences available in the Maldives. He highlighted that, because of the TTG Travel Experience, there is an important opportunity to meet directly with parties active in Italy's tourism sector, to find new ways to strengthen ties, and to provide the market with broader information about the Maldives. The Visit Maldives managing director added that, through the work done with partners at such events, interest in the Maldives will be maintained, and new opportunities will be created for further progress in this sector.
A specially designed, attractive 96-square-metre stand was set up to advertise the Maldives at the fair, showcasing the natural beauty of the Maldives and its diverse experiences. Through the stand, an opportunity has been created to present the services of the participating Maldivian companies and their latest products to international parties.
Italy is a market to which special historical and commercial importance has been given, connected to the foundation of Maldivian tourism. Among the first international tourists to visit the Maldives were citizens of Italy, and a long-standing, strong relationship has developed between the two countries. According to statistics, by the end of this month 100,779 tourists have visited the Maldives from Italy, making the country currently the fourth largest tourist-generating market to the Maldives.
To further expand this market, Visit Maldives has carried out many activities during this year, among them the media familiarisation tour conducted with Alpitour and a joint marketing campaign with Sporting Weekend. Participation in the TTG Travel Experience is an additional push among these efforts to sustainably increase the number of tourists visiting the Maldives from Italy.
