Maldives Tightens Permanent Quota Process for Employers with New Verification Requirements

Local News ·
The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology in the Maldives has announced significant changes to the process of issuing permanent quotas to employers through the Xpat System, as part of the Employment of Foreigners in Maldives Regulations. Effective immediately, employers applying for permanent quota work-site registration must submit a notarized Work Site Declaration Form and an affidavit, both of which are available on the Xpat System homepage. The ministry reserves the right to request additional documents for clarification during the registration process, particularly for work sites on rented properties, where rental agreements and other supporting documents may be required. Employers with existing permanent quota allocations are instructed to upload these documents via the 'Document Update Request' or 'Site Permit Update' options. Failure to comply within the specified period will result in the suspension of the site. These measures aim to regularize expatriate employment and strengthen actions against illegal foreign workers in the Maldives.
