Maldives to Digitise All Land Transport Services by August Deadline

World ·
The Maldives government aims to fully digitise all land transport services by the end of August, providing a more streamlined experience for citizens and residents. Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed announced the timeline during a session of the Maldivian Parliament, where he addressed the current challenges users face when accessing essential transport services. While many transport-related applications are currently available online 24/7, the government is collaborating with OneGov to implement a more modern and efficient digital framework. Minister Saeed explained that this transition is designed as a long-term solution to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles and improve the overall accessibility of the transport sector. Beyond digital infrastructure, the government is aggressively expanding its physical connectivity. The Raajje Transport Link (RTL), the nation's high-speed ferry network, is being extended to ensure every inhabited island is connected. The government has set a target to complete this nationwide network by the end of January next year. Currently, the RTL system operates across 15 atolls utilizing a fleet of 35 high-speed launches. However, services have yet to be launched in five atolls, which remain the primary focus of the ongoing expansion efforts. The integration of digital services and expanded maritime transport marks a dual-pronged approach by the administration to modernize the Maldives' national mobility infrastructure.
