Public Service Media (PSM) is finalizing preparations to host the 21st Asia Media Summit from May 11 to 14, headquartered at the Villa Nautica Maldives Resort. The prestigious event, organized annually by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development, is expected to draw 200 delegates from 35 nations to explore the evolving trajectory of the global media landscape. Running under the theme ‘Maldives 2.0: From Tradition to Tech,’ the summit seeks to highlight the intersection of the Maldives' rapid technological advancement and its deep-rooted commitment to environmental consciousness. While the core discussions will take place at the resort, the event will conclude with a high-profile excursion to the picnic island of Kudagiri. This final-day excursion, organized in collaboration with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), aims to blend cultural diplomacy with environmental action. According to PSM business development executive Aishath Liva Ziyad, the itinerary includes cultural exhibitions showcasing the natural beauty of the islands and a coral planting initiative at a dive wreck near Kudagiri. The environmental component of the summit introduces an ambitious project to build an underwater terminal situated between two submerged aircraft. Ahmed Shamil, HDC’s corporate social responsibility project manager, explained that the project is being executed in phases to ensure sustainability and impact. The inaugural phase involves the submergence of 50 structural frames, a collaborative effort involving neighboring resorts, the Visit Maldives Corporation, and the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation. Shamil noted that this initial deployment serves as the foundation for a larger second phase of the project. By integrating high-level media discourse with tangible conservation efforts, the summit aims to project the Maldives not only as a luxury destination but as a forward-thinking hub for technological and ecological innovation in the Asia-Pacific region.
