The Maldives is preparing to become a regional epicenter for media and technological discourse as Public Service Media (PSM) readies the hosting of the 2026 Asia Media Summit. Scheduled for May 11 to 14, the four-day event will take place at the Villa Nautica Resort, drawing hundreds of media professionals, industry leaders, and government officials from across the Asia Pacific.
Organized by PSM in partnership with the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), the summit aims to position the Maldives as an emerging hub for media innovation in the Indian Ocean. This collaboration blends local Maldivian media expertise with the AIBD's regional broadcasting knowledge to foster high-level networking and strategic discussions.
PSM Executive Director Ibrahim Rameez noted that the event expects approximately 300 delegates representing 30 different countries. Highlighting the global scale of the gathering, Rameez stated that roughly 80 percent of the participants will be international visitors, who will be accommodated across both Villa Nautica and the Hulhule Island Hotel.
PSM Deputy Managing Director Yameen Rasheed emphasized that preparations are now in their final stages. He noted that the summit represents the largest media gathering in the region, attracting not only the heads of various media outlets but also ministerial-level officials from several nations.
Under the theme "Maldives 2.0 from Tradition to Tech," the summit will explore the transition from traditional media to digital innovation. To bridge the gap between theory and practice, the event will kick off on May 11 with a series of pre-workshops. These sessions are designed to equip both local and international journalists with hands-on experience using the latest technological tools currently reshaping the global media landscape.
