The Maldives is set to host the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA) gala ceremony, recognizing tourism excellence across the Indian Ocean, Asia, and Oceania regions. The event, widely regarded as the travel industry's most notable annual gathering, will bring together government ministers, tourism boards, hospitality executives, and international media. This year's flagship ceremony will take place at CROSSROADS Maldives, a multi-resort destination located just 15 minutes from Velana International Airport. The venue spans four connected islands and features three distinct resorts: SAii Lagoon Maldives, Hard Rock Hotel Maldives, and SO/ Maldives, offering a blend of world-class dining and entertainment. WTA founder Graham Cooke noted that combining winners from these three major regions creates a powerful platform that reflects the global influence and dynamism of the Maldives. He highlighted that the CROSSROADS destination embodies the innovation and ambition currently shaping the future of global travel. The ceremony coincides with World Tourism Day, a milestone that Alexandre Traeger, General Manager of SAii Lagoon Maldives and CROSSROADS Marina, described as a privilege. He stated that hosting the awards reflects the destination's vision of integrating diverse experiences into one seamless location. This marks the second time the Maldives has hosted the WTA, following a previous event in 2017. The nation currently holds the title of 'World’s Leading Destination' and continues to earn top honors for its hospitality and commitment to sustainability. Ibrahim Shiuree, Managing Director of the Visit Maldives Corporation, expressed pride in bringing the gala back to the islands. He emphasized that the event serves as an opportunity to showcase not only the natural beauty of the archipelago but also the country's enduring commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism. By hosting this international gathering, the Maldives aims to further solidify its position as a leader in the global tourism sphere, utilizing the platform to share the unique culture and hospitality that define the Maldivian experience.
