The Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) is inviting local tourism industry partners to join its delegation at a series of major international travel trade fairs scheduled for the latter half of 2026. This strategic expansion into new markets is part of a proactive effort to diversify the nation's visitor base and mitigate potential impacts from instability in traditional source regions. The expanded schedule targets key alternative and emerging markets, including Azerbaijan, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Turkey, Italy, Mexico, and Uzbekistan. Notable events on the calendar are ITB China in Shanghai, ILTM Asia and ITB Asia in Singapore, and ITB India in Mumbai. VMC stated the initiative is designed to boost the Maldives' global visibility and support industry partners amid shifting market dynamics. The trade fairs will provide stakeholders with platforms to connect with international buyers, promote the destination, and solidify business relationships. Tourism remains the cornerstone of the Maldivian economy. Officials emphasize that maintaining a robust international presence is critical for ensuring the sector's continued growth and resilience in a competitive and uncertain global environment.
