World ·
The Maldives is approaching a significant tourism milestone, with visitor arrivals nearing one million for the current year. According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, 994,901 tourists have entered the country, underscoring the archipelago's enduring appeal as a premier global destination.
China continues to be the primary driver of tourism, remaining the largest source market with 153,790 arrivals. Russia follows closely in second place with 136,495 visitors. Other significant contributors include the United Kingdom, which ranked third with 82,850 arrivals, followed by Italy with 70,888 and Germany with 64,075 visitors.
While the current figures represent a 4.9 percent decrease compared to the same period last year, they reflect a 4.5 percent increase over 2024, indicating a steady recovery and growth trend. The vast majority of these visitors arrived via air, with 980,054 passengers landing at the country's airports, while 14,847 entered by sea.
Accommodation trends highlight the diverse offerings of the Maldivian tourism product. High-end resorts remain the most popular choice, accommodating 694,411 tourists. The growing guesthouse sector, which provides more community-based experiences on inhabited islands, hosted 231,189 visitors, while hotels accommodated 24,321 guests.
To support this influx of travelers, the Maldives has expanded its infrastructure significantly. The Ministry reports that 1,286 tourist establishments are currently operational across the islands, providing a total combined bed capacity of 67,468. This capacity reflects the ongoing investment in both luxury and budget-friendly lodging to cater to a wider range of international demographics.
