Maldives Urges Dialogue and Regional Unity at China-South Asia Cooperation Forum

The Maldives has reaffirmed its commitment to diplomacy and regional collaboration as the primary tools for maintaining international stability. Speaking at the 7th China–South Asia Cooperation Forum in Yunnan Province, the Maldives emphasized that dialogue is essential for navigating the complex global challenges facing the modern international community.
Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam, delivering the keynote statement during the opening ceremony, highlighted the necessity of unity and collective action. She stressed that regional cooperation is not merely a preference but a requirement for ensuring long-term peace and shared prosperity across South Asia and beyond.
Minister Adam noted that the diplomatic relationship between Male' and Beijing has reached a new milestone following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's state visit to China in 2024. This visit successfully elevated bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, strengthening a longstanding friendship and opening new avenues for mutual growth.
Expressing gratitude to the government and people of Yunnan Province for their consistent support, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed the Maldives' intention to deepen bilateral cooperation across various sectors. She concluded by pledging that the Maldives would continue working closely with China and other regional partners to foster mutual understanding and stability.
Beyond the diplomatic forum, Minister Adam attended the opening of the 10th China-South Asia Expo. During the event, she toured the exhibition and visited stalls operated by Maldivian vendors, highlighting the Maldives' commitment to expanding its trade footprint and promoting local products in the international market.
The Maldivian delegation included several high-ranking officials, including the Ambassador of Maldives to China, Dr. Fazeel Najeeb, Additional Secretary Amin Javed Faizal, Director Maryam Bassama Farooq, and Second Secretary Mizna Waheed.
