Maldives Welcomes German Tourist as First Arrival of 2026

The Maldives welcomed its first tourist of 2026, German national Thomas Andreas HellWeger, on January 1st. Arriving via Etihad Airways, the 54-year-old traveler visited the island nation for the first time alongside his wife. A special ceremony was held at Velana International Airport (VIA) to mark the occasion, where HellWeger was greeted by Ali Musthaq, Deputy Chief Officer of Passenger Services at the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). MACL presented him with a commemorative gift and reaffirmed its commitment to providing top-tier services to travelers. As of December 30th, the Maldives recorded 2.24 million tourist arrivals for 2025, with China leading the tourism market.
