Maldives Welcomes Over 200,000 Tourists in December 2025 Peak Season

The Maldives has recorded a surge in visitor numbers during the peak travel season, with more than 200,000 tourists arriving in the island nation by the end of December 2025. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, 218,650 tourists touched down at Velana International Airport (VIA) between December 1 and 31, marking a 7.7 percent increase from the same period in 2024. This brings the annual tourist total to 2.24 million visitors, a 9.8 percent rise compared to 2024. Luxury resorts remained the preferred choice for 73.4 percent of visitors, with 1,644,644 tourists opting for high-end accommodations. Guesthouses hosted 21.8 percent of tourists, hotels 2.6 percent, liveaboards 2.1 percent, and other facilities accounted for the remainder. China led the market share with 14.7 percent of arrivals, followed by Russia at 12.4 percent and the United Kingdom at 9 percent. The Maldives continues to cement its reputation as a premier luxury travel destination, captivating global travelers with its unparalleled hospitality and picturesque beauty.
