Sports ·
The Maldivian youth national team secured a historic victory in their final match, concluding their journey in the 15-year-old World Cup tournament. In the final match, Maldives faced the British Virgin Islands and won with a score of 0-2. The tournament featured 189 countries, with Maldives ranked 159th. Maldives played five matches in the group stage, losing four and drawing against Anguilla. The team was grouped with South Africa, France, Estonia, Kosovo, and Anguilla. Maldives also played ranking matches before the final. The team was guided by coach Ahmed Shaker (Shakitty). The FIFA Council approved this under-15 tournament last December, aiming to give all FIFA member countries an opportunity to participate in a major world-level event. This year's tournament was only for boys, with a special tournament for girls planned for next year. All South Asian countries except Nepal, which is currently suspended, participated in the tournament.
