Maldivian has signed an interline agreement with Air India, creating new connectivity options for travelers exploring the Maldives beyond the capital. The partnership, announced this week, enables passengers arriving on Air India flights to seamlessly transfer to Maldivian's domestic network serving sixteen local islands. The arrangement positions Maldivian to capture more traffic from major Indian cities including New Delhi and Mumbai, while providing travelers with streamlined access to the country's diverse atolls. Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Maldivian, called the partnership "a milestone in the carrier's efforts to decentralize travel beyond Malé" and highlighted benefits for both tourism and trade sectors. Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, emphasized the Maldives' popularity among Indian travelers and noted the agreement significantly improves access across the island nation. Maldivian officials said the cooperation will optimize network connectivity and enhance customer experience through more reliable travel options and simplified logistics. The strategic alliance comes as both countries seek to strengthen transportation links and improve passenger services on regional routes. The expanded connectivity is expected to support tourism distribution beyond resort islands to local communities, potentially boosting economic activity across the archipelago.
