Politics ·
Maldivian, the national airline, has appointed MEGACAP Aviation Services Limited as its General Sales Agent in China. This strategic move aims to strengthen air travel links with the Maldives' most vital source market for tourists.
To serve this critical route, Maldivian operates dedicated wide-body A330-200 flights, which began in January 2025. The airline's Managing Director, Ibrahim Iyas, stated that the Chinese market is a top priority. He emphasized that selecting MEGACAP highlights the region's importance and that the partnership is expected to build strong commercial ties, making it easier for more Chinese travelers to visit the Maldives.
The airline anticipates that MEGACAP's expertise will help forge cooperative relationships with major players in China's tourism sector. This collaboration is projected to boost the airline's brand profile and support sustained growth.
Official statistics confirm China's indispensable role in Maldivian tourism. Last year, the Maldives welcomed 329,110 Chinese visitors, a 25 percent increase from the previous year. As of mid-March this year, 86,464 tourists from China have arrived, accounting for 15.6 percent of the total market share.
