Maldivian Delegation Visits Beijing to Expand Chinese Tourism Market Reach

World ·
A high-level Maldivian delegation is conducting a ten-day official mission in Beijing to accelerate the growth of tourist arrivals from China, the Maldives' largest source market for tourism. Led by State Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Haris Mohamed and Visit Maldives Corporation Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree, the delegation is engaging in strategic meetings with Chinese airlines, tour operators, and marketing specialists to solidify the nation's appeal to Chinese travelers. Central to the visit was a large-scale networking event organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation. The gathering brought together dozens of airline representatives and travel agencies to explore diversified tourism offerings. State Minister Haris emphasized the Maldives' versatility, highlighting a spectrum of experiences ranging from high-end luxury resorts and boutique guesthouses to wellness retreats and family-oriented cultural activities. To refine the nation's promotional strategy, the delegation met with Cross Horizons, a consultancy specializing in cultural exchange and Chinese market connectivity. The discussions focused on launching targeted marketing campaigns and expanding outreach to ensure the Maldives remains a top-of-mind destination for Chinese tourists. These diplomatic and commercial efforts come amid a period of significant growth. According to the Ministry of Tourism, the Maldives has already welcomed 168,677 Chinese visitors this year. This figure represents a 19.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year, signaling a strong recovery and expanding appetite for Maldivian travel within the Chinese market.
