In a major push to enhance healthcare access and quality, the Maldives government has launched over 170 infrastructure projects across the country. Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim announced these developments during the launch of new digital healthcare software systems. The projects include the construction of 28 new hospitals, 24 modern health centres, upgrades to 14 regional hospitals, and the renovation of 97 existing health facilities. Additionally, regional hospitals are being upgraded to tertiary care facilities to provide advanced medical services. Minister Nazim also highlighted the recruitment of over 1,700 new healthcare staff, with around 1,000 deployed to provincial health centres. The Ministry has introduced two major software systems—a Help Desk Support platform and a Medical Stock System—to improve service efficiency and supply management. A human resource management system and a digital document-sharing platform are also being implemented nationwide. These efforts are part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's national agenda to decentralise healthcare services and improve accessibility for all citizens. The software launch event was co-officiated by the Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, and attended by health centre directors from across the country.
