Maldivian Officials Join 400 Global Delegates at Asia-Pacific Media Summit in China

The Asia-Pacific Media Summit has commenced in China, beginning with a series of strategic sub-forums held in Guangzhou, Tongguan, and Zhuhai. These preliminary events precede the official opening ceremony scheduled for September 5, setting the stage for a high-level exchange of media practices and regional cooperation. Representing the Maldives at the Guangzhou sub-forum were the Ambassador to China, Dr. Fazeel Najeeb, and the Chairperson of Public Service Media (PSM), Aminath Namza. The gathering serves as a critical platform for media professionals to align on regional goals under this year's theme: “Building the Road to Prosperity of the Asia-Pacific Community Through Media Consensus and Action.” During the Guangzhou sessions, Ambassador Fazeel participated in two pivotal panel discussions. These deliberations focused on strengthening diplomatic and professional cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region and exploring the transformative potential of artificial intelligence as a primary driver for regional development. Beyond the boardroom, the sub-forums are designed to provide delegates with immersive experiences. Participants are visiting key sites that showcase the rapid economic and urban development of the host cities, allowing media representatives to witness firsthand the growth trends shaping the region. The summit is a massive undertaking, bringing together over 400 delegates from 220 media organizations across 42 countries. This diverse cohort includes representatives from international media conglomerates, academic institutions specializing in communication, government bodies, United Nations agencies, and various international organizations. The event is being jointly organized by the Central Propaganda Department, the Xinhua News Agency, and the Guangdong Provincial Government. By fostering a consensus among the diverse media landscapes of the Asia-Pacific, the summit aims to create a collaborative framework for shared prosperity and informed storytelling.
