Maldivian postpones Jeddah Umrah flight over security concerns
Local News ·
Maldivian, the national airline operated by Island Aviation (IAAS), has postponed its scheduled flight to Jeddah tomorrow due to the deteriorating security situation in the region. The flight was set to carry Umrah pilgrims summoned by Hajj Corporation. In a statement issued this evening, IAAS said the decision was made after the situation in the area worsened over the past 24 hours. The company said it is closely monitoring security matters in the region, including Saudi Arabia, in connection with the ongoing unrest in the Middle East. 'Our assessment indicates that the current level of risk is likely to pose a serious danger to passenger safety,' IAAS said. The company noted that some airlines have suspended flights to Saudi Arabia and that obstacles have arisen in using Jeddah's airspace due to statements issued by international aviation authorities. The Jeddah flight has been postponed until further notice without a specific new date. IAAS stated that ensuring the safety and security of passengers is the most important matter, and that both IAAS and Hajj Corporation will assist Umrah pilgrims with difficulties caused by the postponement. A new travel date will be announced once safe travel arrangements are made.
