Maldivians Gain New Aasandha Medical Access at Sri Lanka's Kings Hospital

Politics ·
Maldivians traveling to Sri Lanka have gained a new option for medical treatment under the national Aasandha health insurance scheme. The government has expanded coverage to include Kings Hospital in Colombo, with services officially commencing last month. This expansion provides crucial relief for Maldivians living in or visiting Sri Lanka who depend on Aasandha for healthcare. It comes as another popular facility for Maldivians, Lanka Hospitals, recently suspended its Aasandha services due to a contract dispute. The administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is actively working to strengthen Aasandha services and address challenges faced by patients seeking treatment abroad. As part of this effort, agreements have now been signed with 63 hospitals internationally, including nine within Sri Lanka, to facilitate patient referrals under the national insurance scheme.
