Maldivians in Sri Lanka Donate 78 Boxes of Relief After Cyclone

Politics ·
Maldivians living in Sri Lanka have mobilized quickly to support their host nation following Cyclone Ditwah's widespread devastation. The Maldivian High Commission collected and delivered 78 boxes of essential supplies including clothing, medicine, food, and water to affected Sri Lankans. Minister Counsellor Haleemath Shizna reported that the Maldivian community in Sri Lanka donated all items within just two days after the High Commission opened its doors for contributions. The rapid response demonstrates the strong bonds between the Maldivian diaspora and their Sri Lankan hosts. This community effort complements broader Maldivian support for Sri Lanka's recovery. The Maldivian government previously donated USD 50,000 along with 25,000 cases of canned tuna. Additionally, Maldivian media outlets organized a national telethon that raised USD 800,000, all of which has been officially handed over to Sri Lankan authorities. The coordinated relief efforts highlight the Maldives' commitment to regional solidarity and disaster response. Both government initiatives and community-driven actions have provided substantial support to Sri Lanka as the island nation works to recover from the cyclone's impact.
