Politics ·
Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdullah has said that the support of the Male' City Council for the national movement opposing the sale of Rasmalé is a great encouragement. The movement, named 'Dhivehige Bin Dhivehinnah' (Land of Maldivians for Maldivians), seeks to protest the government's decision to sell land in Rasmalé.
Speaking to journalists after meeting with Male' City Mayor Adam Azim, Sheikh Imran stated that the Mayor and the Council have assured full support within the bounds of the law and regulations. He described this backing as a sign that the movement is expanding and gaining momentum.
Sheikh Imran reiterated that the protest will continue until the government halts the Rasmalé project. He also called on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to listen to the voices of the people, noting that a large majority of Maldivians oppose the sale of 500 hectares of land.
