Male’ City Group of Hospitals to Launch Digital National Blood Donor Registry

World ·
The Male’ City Group of Hospitals (MCGH) will introduce a digitized national blood donor registry later this year to streamline coordination between blood donors and patients in need. Speaking at a ceremony to mark Blood Donor’s Day, MCGH Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq announced the move, noting that the digital transition aims to make the donation process more efficient and accessible. The initiative builds upon existing digital infrastructure, such as the OneGov portal, which already hosts a registry for thalassaemia patients. This digital leap is part of a broader government effort to expand healthcare services for blood-related disorders. Razzaq highlighted several recent upgrades at the Thalassaemia Centre, including the opening of a DNA laboratory in February and the extension of blood transfusion services to Fridays to ensure continuous care. Further enhancing the center's capabilities, endocrinology services were launched in July 2025, followed by the introduction of haematology services, antigen typing, and bone marrow testing in August 2025. These advancements mark a significant evolution for the facility, which has served the community for 35 years. Beyond technical upgrades, the CEO emphasized the moral imperative of blood donation, describing it as an act of compassion and social responsibility deeply rooted in the values of a Muslim-majority society. He expressed gratitude to individual donors, private organizations, and resorts that have consistently supported blood donation drives across the archipelago. Under the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the government is prioritizing a reliable blood supply and improved specialized care for thalassaemia patients, many of whom rely on regular life-saving transfusions to maintain their health.
