A man who hacked another person's Facebook account, used the account to message the victim's children and obtained money through a bank transfer has been sentenced to prison by the Criminal Court. The court handed down the jail sentence to Adam Rasheed of G. Blueriva. The charges against him stated that after hacking the Facebook account of Mohamed Maumoon of Dhufaa, HA. Ihavandhoo, he used Facebook Messenger to message Maumoon's daughter Fathimath Haula of Rath-asuruma, HA. Ihavandhoo, asking her to send MVR 1,000, and messaged another of Maumoon's children, Ahmed Hamdoon of Dhufaa, HA. Ihavandhoo, asking him to send MVR 3,500. He then gave them the account number of an account opened at Bank of Maldives in the name of his sibling, Hussain Rasheed of G. Bulooliva, and after the money was deposited into that account he took the funds and failed to hand them over to those parties. In the case, the state charged Adam Rasheed with the offence of unlawfully exercising authority over another person's property. Adam Rasheed admitted to the charge in court. As a result, the court determined that, on the basis of his own admission, the charge of unlawfully exercising authority over another person's property had been proven against Adam Rasheed, and sentenced him to four months and 24 days in prison.
