Man with 100 arrests detained again

A 36-year-old man with a long criminal history has been arrested once more, this time for stealing a laptop. Safwan Ali from Thimarafushi, who has been taken into police custody over 100 times for various crimes, was brought before the court following the theft. Earlier this year, he was arrested for robbing a foreigner of MVR 33,500 and was also implicated in stealing a trimmer and boxes of pens. In the latest case, police recovered the laptop from Safwan and another person. The court noted inconsistencies between his police statement and court testimony. He has been ordered to remain in custody for 10 days while the trial continues.
