In a historic ruling, the Criminal Court has sentenced Hassan Mamdhooh, commonly known as Manday, to 397 years in prison for his involvement in the fraudulent sale of apartments from K-Park Residences, a condominium under development in Hulhumale’. This marks the longest prison term ever issued in the Maldives. Manday was found guilty on 94 charges, including 46 counts of misappropriation, 44 counts of fraud, three counts of providing counterfeit documents, and one count of money laundering. Judge Ali Nadheem, who presided over the case, emphasized the severity of the crimes and stated that the sentence should serve as a deterrent. Manday was also fined MVR 30 million, and the court ordered the state to confiscate a penthouse he purchased with illicit funds. His accomplice, Jaishan Saeed, received a 159-year prison sentence for his role in the scheme. The case was initiated following complaints from Hanbo, the project developer, and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). The fraud involved forging signatures and opening accounts to deceive multiple clients, with some apartments sold to as many as six different buyers.
