Male' city Mayor Adam Azim has deleted a social media post praising the 'heroes' who helped overthrow the government of former President Mohamed Nasheed. The post, made on social media X on September 9, 2012, referred to the coup that forced Nasheed to resign in February 2012. In the post, Azim wrote, 'Maldives saved by three brave heroes from Portuguese. It is a fact history repeats. Again three brave heroes saved from traitors.' He tagged former Police Commissioner Abdulla Riyaz, who, along with Azim's brother, former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim, led the mutiny. The post, widely circulated on Tuesday, faced criticism from many members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). Azim did not respond to calls seeking comment on why he deleted the post.
