Mayor Azim: Malé traffic worsened by sale of land for non-existent garages
Local News ·
Malé City Mayor Adham Azim has stated that the traffic problem in Malé has worsened because the city sold land for parking spaces for four-wheeled vehicles that did not exist. He made these remarks while responding to concerns raised by citizens during a meeting titled "Citizens' Land, Citizens' Voice." Citizens had noted that vehicles used for daily commuting are being fined every day, yet no solution has been found for Malé's congestion. Mayor Azim said that the Malé City Council sold land for parking spaces under the assumption that such spaces did not exist, and that this was also the reason why the traffic problem worsened. He highlighted that these issues have been forwarded to the police department, and stated that the police department must become stricter and stronger, and that those who committed these crimes must be punished. Mayor Azim added that it is the responsibility of the Malé City Council to send cases to investigative agencies and confirmed that cases have already been sent. He further noted that if offenders are not punished, the issues will not be resolved, and that the traffic problem remains unsolved for this reason.
