Mayor Calls for Proper Waste-Disposal System and Fair Pricing as Dumping Complaints Rise in Hulhumale'

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has emphasized that the persistent issue of garbage dumping across Hulhumale' can only be resolved if residents are provided with access to an efficient waste-management system at an affordable price. His remarks follow the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) releasing a video last Tuesday showcasing piles of garbage dumped in various parts of Hulhumale'. The video urged the public to take responsibility, particularly during Ramadan and throughout the year, suggesting negligence as the root cause. Azim, in a post on X, criticized HDC for prioritizing profit over public welfare and stated that residents are being unfairly blamed while essential services remain inadequate. He stressed that the waste problem cannot be solved without a proper system and affordable disposal fees, urging HDC to take responsibility for clearing waste and maintaining a clean environment. Meanwhile, complaints about large-scale garbage dumping near the FDC flats have increased, with FDC Managing Director Hamdhaan Shakeel also calling for residents' cooperation to address the issue.
