Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, CEO of the Male’ City Group of Hospitals (MCGH), has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the newly formed State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited (SPHMC). The announcement was made by the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) on Tuesday. The corporation, established by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on September 9, aims to centralize and enhance the supply of medicines and medical consumables across the Maldives. Dr. Shah Mahir, previously Deputy CEO of Dharumavantha Hospital, was appointed as the Managing Director of the company on September 14. The SPHMC is expected to begin operations soon, focusing not only on importing drugs but also on the potential for local pharmaceutical production. Despite its formation three months ago, public concerns remain over limited access to certain medicines. Health Minister Abdulla Nazim recently assured Parliament that the corporation’s role extends beyond imports, aiming to develop a specialized pharmaceutical industry in the Maldives.
