MDP Accuses Government of Pressuring Party Leadership After Rishvathu Allegations

Politics ·
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has accused the government of exerting pressure on its leadership following allegations of involvement in the Rishvathu incident. On December 9, 2025, MDP’s Chairperson, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, stated that the party’s leadership played no role in the controversial event. MDP’s Deputy Leader, Ibrahim Waheed, highlighted that the government failed to provide any support for the party’s planned event on November 17, despite repeated requests. Waheed also claimed that the government’s lack of cooperation was part of a broader strategy to undermine MDP’s efforts. The party has called for transparency and criticized the government’s alleged interference in political activities, emphasizing its commitment to democratic principles.
