MDP is not a party that merely talks, says Malé Mayor Azim, accusing government of obstructing council work
Politics ·
Malé City Mayor Adam Azim has said that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is not a party that will decide after making statements, and that under an MDP government, the people will see tangible work being done for them.
Speaking to RaajjeTV after visiting the Rasfannu area on Tuesday, Azim said there is currently no proper place for people to relax in the Malé region, nor a suitable spot for children to swim in the sea.
Mayor Azim accused the government of obstructing the work of the City Council. He said the government has been taking over lands that were under the council's supervision, and that after a facility built in Hulhumalé Phase 2 to address the stray cat problem was taken over by the government, no work has been carried out there. He noted that the facility has 65 staff and 30 cats but is not functioning.
Azim added that the government is not providing any support to resolve issues in the Malé region and continues to block efforts made by the council. He expressed that the problems remain unresolved, and that the council's attempts to improve conditions are being hindered by the government.
