MDP MP warns home schooling could foster radical ideologies
Politics ·
Gaafu Alif Atoll South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem has raised concerns that home schooling could be dangerous and might facilitate the fostering of radical ideologies. Speaking during the debate on amendments to the Education Act proposed by ruling party PNC MP Dr. Anara Naaim, Meekail highlighted the need to consider whether individuals with radical ideologies could keep their children at home to nurture such beliefs. He noted that the government has confirmed through various institutions that many people with radical ideologies are among those currently keeping their children home instead of sending them to school. Meekail also criticised the bill's weak regulatory mechanism and called for the bill to be withdrawn and resubmitted after consulting the Education Minister, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, and relevant parties.
