MDP submits resolution for public vote on Malé Water Front End Marina project
Politics ·
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted a resolution to the People’s Majlis calling for a public vote to gauge public opinion on the “Maldives Water Front End Marina” project, which is planned to be implemented by the Equal Hills company of the United Arab Emirates in Malé.
MDP Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Nazil stated today that the resolution calling for a public vote on the Malé project should have been sent to the Majlis two days ago.
Nazil said that this was a responsibility entrusted to MDP members by the party’s National Council and expressed strong hope that the work on this resolution would proceed in the Majlis.
However, Nazil noted that due to changes made to the rules of the Majlis, holding a vote on a resolution itself poses a significant hurdle for members. The MDP National Council had approved the call for a public vote on the Malé project. Furthermore, it was also approved that if the government does not respond to this matter by the 15th of this month, they will take direct action.
