The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage has signed formal agreements with 17 media organizations, including Public Service Media (PSM), to spearhead a nationwide initiative aimed at reviving traditional Maldivian values and mutual respect. Launched under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the National Respect Campaign is designed as a five-year movement to restore the positive social qualities and kindness historically associated with the Maldivian identity. The government intends for the project to transcend official bureaucracy, evolving into a national movement involving state ministries, private companies, and the general public. During the signing ceremony, Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed emphasized that the media's cooperation is critical to the campaign's success. She noted that the initiative is a permanent investment in the country's youth and children, aiming to instill positive character traits across all sections of society. PSM Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb echoed these sentiments, stating that the Maldives has long been recognized for the kindness and respect of its people. He observed that as these traditional values have gradually diminished, there is an urgent need to restore the core Maldivian identity for current and future generations. To ensure professional oversight, President Muizzu has established a nine-member committee consisting of arts experts and representatives from relevant ministries and PSM to manage the campaign's implementation. As part of the initial rollout, the Ministry has opened a public competition to design the campaign's official logo. Maldivians aged 16 and above are eligible to participate, with the deadline for submissions set for September 24 at 2 p.m. The winning designer will receive a cash prize of approximately USD 3,883.
