Meta launches AI-powered 'Your Algorithm' to let Facebook users customize Feed and Reels

Tech ·
Meta has introduced a new artificial intelligence-powered feature called 'Your Algorithm' that allows Facebook users to customize what appears in their Feed and Reels. Before this, even content that users did not want to see would appear in the Feed and Reels. The feature was introduced by Mark Zuckerberg's Meta, and it lets users describe in their own words the areas and content they want to see on the platform. Meta has also made changes to the 'three dots' menu on Facebook posts to support the tool. In a blog post published on Wednesday, Meta said users can now interact directly with the algorithms that display and recommend information in Facebook's Feed and Reels, improving their own experience. As a result, Meta said, users will see recommendations that are fully relevant to them and most satisfying to their interests. Meta described the feature as one specifically dedicated to allowing users to directly state the areas they are interested in. Meta has also expanded the opportunity for users to give feedback on posts they see in Feed and Reels. After choosing 'Interested' or 'Not interested' for posts, the system may ask additional questions to clarify why the user likes or dislikes them. Users will also be able to tell the platform directly which topics they want to see more of or less of. Previously, Meta showed recommendations only based on users' previous likes, comments and watched videos. Meta guarantees that with the new system, as users enter new preferences, recommendations will change in real time, or immediately. According to Meta, the 'Your Algorithm' tool works using Large Language Models (LLMs). Because of this, the system can identify the interests contained in text written in ordinary language, as well as the meaning and purpose behind it.
