Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has signed an agreement with China’s Sino-Mec Hainan Development Company to facilitate opportunities for exporting Maldivian fish to the Chinese market. The agreement was signed at the China-Maldives Investment Corporation Forum by MIFCO Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mohamed Anas and Sino-Mec Hainan Development Chief Advisor O Wegoao. Under the deal, the two companies will collaborate on identifying market opportunities, arranging fish supply, and addressing product quality, packaging, logistics, and legal standards required for the Chinese market. MIFCO will act as a fish supplier while Sino-Mec Hainan will secure market opportunities. The parties have also agreed to consult on increasing export volumes starting from 2027 based on initial study results and business arrangements. MIFCO stated that the agreement represents a very important opportunity to find new international markets for Maldivian fisheries products and to strengthen the business relationship between the Maldives and China.
