Milandhoo Health Centre Launches X-Ray Services to Cut Patient Travel
Politics ·
X-ray services are now available at the Milandhoo Health Centre in Shaviyani Atoll, marking a major step in decentralizing critical medical services across the Maldives.
Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim inaugurated the facility, which makes Milandhoo the fourth island to gain such services under the current administration. The 24-hour health centre is equipped with a modern X-ray machine, enabling local physicians to quickly diagnose conditions like bone fractures and respiratory illnesses.
“Health services are vital for the development of any island community,” Minister Nazim said at the ceremony. He also announced that preparations are in progress to introduce dialysis services on the island soon.
The Ministry of Health described the initiative as a significant leap for atoll healthcare. It is expected to drastically reduce the need for residents to travel to Malé or other central hubs for basic diagnostic imaging, saving time, money, and reducing health risks associated with delayed treatment.
