Minister Emphasizes Importance of Strong Internal Audits for Local Councils

Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar has stressed the significance of robust internal audits for the effective functioning of local councils. Speaking at the opening of the Local Councils Internal Audit Conference on Tuesday morning, the minister underscored the need for strong audit mechanisms to ensure credibility and efficiency in council operations. The conference, organized by the Local Government Authority (LGA) in collaboration with the Internal Audit Association of Maldives (IAA), aimed to highlight the role of internal audits in maintaining accountability and transparency. Minister Umar emphasized that internal audits are essential for preventing potential misconduct and ensuring that councils operate at their best. 'Whether it’s councils or any other institution, strong internal audits are crucial for the most well-functioning institutions,' he stated. The event brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing audit processes and promoting good governance at the local level.
