Minister Heena Waleed Urges Citizens to Prioritize National Responsibility on National Day

Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed has called on Maldivians to prioritize their national responsibilities as the country commemorates National Day. Speaking at the official ceremony held in Utheemu, Haa Alif Atoll, the Minister emphasized that the occasion serves as a critical bridge connecting the nation's past with its future. This year's celebrations in Utheemu were dedicated to honoring the legacy of Ghazi Bandaarain. Minister Heena highlighted the government's commitment to preserving the island's heritage, stating that safeguarding these memories is an act of gratitude for the sacrifices that secured the nation's victory and sovereignty. During her address, the Minister thanked President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for spearheading a national project designed to revive the legacy of Ghazi Bandaarain as a central national symbol. She described National Day not merely as a celebration, but as a moment for deep reflection on the conditions and qualities that allowed the Maldives to evolve into a unified nation. Minister Heena stressed that preserving the independence and security of the Maldives is an individual responsibility shared by every citizen. She noted that while circumstances change, the core need to understand the foundations of the state remains constant. “Our greatest responsibility today is to steer current changes back toward a positive path,” the Minister stated, noting that the President's current policy focuses on reviving and elevating national identity to achieve key national objectives. Concluding her remarks, Minister Heena issued a call to the youth to draw strength from the country's historical characteristics. She urged the younger generation to foster unity, build trust, and maintain a strong sense of patriotism.
