Minister Muthalib Commends Staff Resilience on First Anniversary of Devastating Fire

On the one-year anniversary of the catastrophic fire that destroyed a government building block housing three ministries, Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muthalib praised the Ministry’s staff for their perseverance and determination amidst adversity. The fire, which erupted on December 12, 2024, at a block of government buildings on Ameenee Magu in Malé City, caused extensive damage to the Housing Ministry, Infrastructure Ministry, Environment Ministry, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and sections of the Malé City Council. Minister Muthalib, in a post on X, highlighted the resilience of the staff who endured heartache and tears while adapting, rebuilding, and continuing their work. Despite the massive destruction, which rendered the buildings unusable, the staff managed to retrieve some documents. However, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and details of the ongoing investigation have yet to be disclosed by authorities.
