Minister Saeed: Political Differences Must Not Turn Into Campaign Against Investors

Economy ·
Minister of Economic Development, Travel and Trade Mohamed Saeed has appealed that political differences should not be turned into a campaign against investors. In a social media post on October 17, 2026, he stated: 'Political differences should never become a campaign against investors. For the good of our citizens and the opportunities investment can create, opposition movements should stop targeting those who are willing to invest in the Maldives.' The Minister made the appeal during the eighth edition of the 'Ahaa' forum, held jointly by the President's Office and PSM. He further stressed that tourism remains the backbone of the Maldivian economy and that no industry can be built on hatred, lies, and jealousy. Saeed called for an end to the spread of false information and intimidation targeting foreign investors. He affirmed that the laws and constitution of the Maldives will apply to all activities and urged verifying facts before sharing news. The government continues to prioritize foreign investment, with major projects including the Sustainable Township Project in Noonu Atoll and the planned Rasmalé project.
